Ake onboard his works 400cc Yamaha in Sittendorf, Austria´s GP. To the 1974 GP season Yamaha came up with a 400cc bike instead of the previous 360cc, the 3600cc engine used in the GP season the year before had lack of torque. Unfortunately the 400cc engine was horrible to ride, the stroke of the engine was way too long, making it impossible to handle. So in the mid season Ake skipped the 400cc engine and went back to last years 360cc engine. Ake modified the cylinder ports, by himself, to scream up the power in the 360cc engine. It helped but the cylinder began to eat pistons, so after every moto they had to change piston and rings.
